How long does it take to learn German?

Every student learns at their own pace. How quickly you progress through the German language levels depends on your personal focus, time investment, and how actively you practice outside the classroom.

To help you plan your language journey, here is an estimated guideline of guided instruction needed for each official CEFR level:

A1 : approx. 60-150 hours (80-200 TU*)
A2 : approx. 150-260 hours (200-350 TU*)
B1 : approx. 260-490 hours (350-650 TU*)
B2 : approx. 450-600 hours (600-800 TU*)
C1 : approx. 600-750 hours (800-1000 TU*)
C2 : approx. 750+ hours (1000+ TU*)

* TU = Teaching Unit; a teaching unit consists of 45 minutes of instruction.

Our comprehensive A1 German language course is designed to take you from total beginner to exam-ready within a single year.

The curriculum is split into two structured parts (A1.1 and A1.2), totaling 96 Teaching Units (TU):

• A1.1: 3 Modules (48 TU total - Each module spans 8 sessions of 90 minutes)
• A1.2: 3 Modules (48 TU total - Each module spans 8 sessions of 90 minutes)

By completing both parts, you will gain full fluency at the A1 level and be fully prepared to pass the official Goethe-Zertifikat A1 exam.

When can I join your classes?

Group German Classes: We offer ongoing group sessions across all levels (A1–C2). Following your free German level assessment, you can join an active class at any point during the term. Your fee will be calculated on a pro-rata basis, meaning you only pay for the remaining lessons in the module.

1:1 Private German Lessons: Start your personalized training at any time. Private lessons are fully customised to match your schedule, preferred learning style, and specific goals — whether you need fast-track Goethe exam preparation or targeted business German coaching.

Which level should I join?

If you have never studied German before, level A1.1 Module 1 is where your journey begins. No prior knowledge is needed.
You can sign-up online. For other levels you can book a free taster lesson an have you language level assessed.

If you have previous knowledge of German, we offer a FREE 30-minute taster lesson to help you find your ideal fit. You will have the opportunity to our teaching style while our tutors assess your language level to place you in the perfect class.

Are all your classes online?

All our group classes are online. Providing interactive lessons in small groups.

For learners seeking individual focus or custom schedules, we provide flexible one-to-one lessons. Unlike our group courses, private lessons can be taken either online or in person. Whether you want to focus on business German, exam preparation, or rapid conversation skills, our tutors will craft a personalised curriculum for your needs.

Do you offer discounts for courses?

We usually offer a 30 discount on Module 1 for our A1.1 course.

What should I do if I cannot attend every session?

Every lesson includes a presentation and is recorded. After each lesson, the tutor will email both to all students, so you can easily catch up if you miss a class or need to review anything.

Written homework can also be handed in at a later time, so you can work through it at your own pace.

Do you explain the Grammer in English?

We try to use as much German as possible during our lessons. This helps you get used to hearing and understanding German from the very beginning and gives you plenty of opportunities to speak.

When needed, new vocabulary can be translated into English, and grammar can be clearly explained in English.
