mitbringen – to bring along 

Zuerst muss man etwas mitNEHMEN.
Danach man es mitBRINGEN kann.

First you need to take sth.
with you from the place you left
before you can bring it along.

mitnehmen 

If you take sth./s.o with you when you leave the place of its/his/her origin.
Ich nehme meinen Regenschirm (von zu Hause) mit.
Du nimmt deine Kamera (von zu Hause) mit auf den Ausflug.
Wir nehmen den Hund mit in den Urlaub.

mitbringen

If you carry sth./s.o. with you when
you take it to a another place.

Ich bringe Bier zur Party mit.
Bringst du deine Freundin mit?
Er hat vergessen das Buch mitzubringen.

Bring deine Dokumente mit! My collegue says when calling me from London.
= Bring your documents along!

Nimm deine Dokumente mit, my wife reminds me before departing.
= Don’t forget to take your laptop when you leave.
